A new meme by Japanese meme generator Shindan (lit. ‘diagnosis’) Maker caught Japanese social media – mainly Twitter – in a temporary buzz this week. Going by the title simply as “Who is your Seiyuu 2” (part 1 was some time ago), users simply have to enter their names – can be real, aliases or social media nicks/handle-names – into the empty field, and click the “diagnose” button, the meme generator will do the rest! Twitter users have been having fun entering their names and generating random, and often hilariously entertaining results and posting them on their twitter accounts for laughs, that the hashtag #whoisyourseiyuu” hit an unexpected trending rank over Japanese Twitter for the next couple of days following.

Things however, suddenly took a seriously hilarious turn, when even the REAL seiyuus started to ‘diagnose” themselves! It first started off with popular voice actor Tomokazu Sugita (known for his roles in series like “Gintama” and “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”, etc.) posting his diagnosis results on his public twitter post, and his fellow seiyuu and BFF Yuichi Nakamura (who is equally popular – known for his roles in series like “Monthly Shojo Nozaki-kun”, and “Fairy Tail”, etc.) posting a retaliative comment; and then things escalated – or should we say, degenerated – into a a great snowball of entertaining hilarity (for the fans at least) from there!

Sugita – Wow I never knew that!! “Tomokazu Sugita’s seiyuu is Aoki Yuuki!”

Nakamura – “Yuichi Nakamura’s seiyuu is Maaya Sakamoto!” Aha! I win!!

…to which Sugita further retaliated in comment telling Nakamura that ‘you are growing up well‘ in a jokingly-sarcastic tone:

And it doesn’t just end here because the other voice actors in the industry started to get in on the ‘action’ as well… starting with Kensho Ono (known for his roles in “The Basketball that Kuroko Plays”, etc.) and Daiki Yamashita (known for his roles in “Yowamushi Pedal”, “Boku no Hero Academia”, etc.)!

Kensho Ono shared the results of his ‘diagnosis’ – “Kensho Ono’s seiyuu is Daisuke Ono!” – on his twitter, with a follow-up tweet/comment saying “Hey I’m still being voiced by an ‘Ono-san’!”

Daiki Yamashita’s voice actor from his ‘diagnosis’ landed him with “Nobuhiko Okamoto”Both VAs respectively voice the protagonist Izuya ‘Deku’ Midoriya and the deuteragonist Katsuki ‘Kacchan’ Bakugo in the “Boku no Hero Academia” series. Talk about an uncanny coincidence!

Here’s a look at some of the other seiyuus who shared their amazing and sometimes hilarious diagnosis results!

Star of “Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans” Kengo Kawanishi tweeted that “This is addictive and I can’t stop!” – he got his own co-star Yoshimasa Hosoya from the same series as his voice-actor.

From veteran voice actor Tomokazu Seki’s tweet Tomokazu Seki’s seiyuu is Akio Ohzuka!” with his comment’I’m extremely honoured, thank you!’:

From voice actor Takashi Kondo’s tweet Takashi Kondo’s seiyuu is Jun Fukuyama!” with his comment Everyone seems to be doing this so let me try to…. I see!’:

From veteran voice actress Megumi Ogata’s tweet Megumi Ogata’s seiyuu is Takahiro Sakurai!” with her comment … so I see…! ( ̄∇ ̄)‘ :

Seiyuu Junji Nojima seems to also got ‘diagnosed’ with Akio Ohzuka and his tweet he wrote ‘This is a lie! I’d be so embarrassed I don’t want to meet him!‘ :

In fact the #whoisyourseiyuu” shindan-maker meme was so randomly entertaining with some of the most uncannily coincidental results that even non-seiyuus were doing it! Here’s one from singer-songwriter Masayoshi Oishi. He got the results Masayoshi Oishi’s seiyuu is Takahiro Sakurai!” – to which one of his account’s followers replied in comments ‘Wow this is fate!’ since both personalities really resemble each other in looks they might be mistaken for brothers!
