The city of Topeka, Kansas in the United States has a special connection to Pokemon. 20 years ago, the city renamed itself ToPikachu to mark the release of the Pokemon Red and Blue games. And now, with the release of the Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee games, they’re doing it again!

The first time they did so was back in August 1998, back in the heyday of the old Game Boy consoles. And this is official too, as Topeka’s mayor, Michelle De La Isla announced it herself.

Aside from Topeka’s renaming (which unfortunately is temporary), Nintendo is also hoting the “Pokemon Let’s Go Road Trip” around the United States. Of course, one of the major stops is ToPikachu, and it will happen on Gage Park today, 27th October. The tour’s other stops include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, and New York.
