Hayao Miyazaki has had a long and fruitful career with plenty of awards, including TWO Oscars (for Spirited Away and a Special Award). Now, the Los Angeles Film Cristics Association is giving him another one! This time, it will be their Career Achievement Award that Miya-san will be receiving.

They will give him the award during their annual awards dinner on 12 January 2019. They will be holding it at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, California.

“We are thrilled to be presenting our Career Achievement award to Hayao Miyazaki, who has transported our members — and audiences around the world — to his enchanting, indelible and vividly imaginative worlds through his gorgeous and thematically rich animation,” LAFCA president Claudia Puig said.  “The way in which Miyazaki inspires an audience’s sense of wonder is unmatched. I particularly admire his depiction of self-sufficient, determined and courageous female characters who don’t need saving. He has explained his cinematic approach simply: ‘Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man.’ These words resonate more powerfully than ever in our current times.”

Miyazaki previously won the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for best animation back in 2002. This is also for Spirited Away, which he won an Academy Award for.
