The 51st annual Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain celebrates fantasy films. And now, they have revealed the winners, and among them is Mamoru Hosoda’s Mirai. It won the festival’s Best Animated Feature Film award over a crop of 10 nominees. These include I want to eat your pancreas, Liz and the Blue Bird, and penguin highway.

This will be the fourth time the acclaimed director has won the award. He first won in in 2006 for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, in 2009 for Summer Wars, and in 2012 for Wolf Children.

However, it’s not the only Japanese anime film to win an award during the festival. This is because Mari Okada’s Maquia – When the Promised Flower Blooms film won the Fantastic Discovery award as well. Atsushi Doi, who worked as the CG director of the live-action Inuyashiki film also won the Best Special Effects award.

Congratulations to all the winners!
