Natsume’s Book of Friends the Movie: Ephemeral Bond finally premiered last weekend, and boy did it do well. In fact, the anime film did so well that it debuted at the top of the Japanese weekend box office.

The film took the #1 spot based on tickets sold during the weekend of 29-30 September 2018. It beat out Gintama 2, which also debuted at the top spot a few weeks prior. But for this week however, the 4th Wall-breaking live-action film fell from the #4 spot to the #8 spot.

Natsume’s Book of Friends the Movie: Ephemeral Bond follows Natsume as he befriends a young man named Rio Tsumura (CV: Kengo Kora) and his mother. And yes, because this is Natsume we’re talking about, this would involve a few youkai. It is now screening in several movie theatres across Japan.
