The Dragon Quest video game franchise has always been identified with Dragon Ball mangaka Akira Toriyama. However, as they announce a new one-shot manga for Dragon Quest XI, they didn’t go with their traditional manga partner, but instead went with another iconic mangaka. This time, its Fairy Tail’s Hiro Mashima’s turn to work on Dragon Quest. They even released a teaser during Jump Festa ’19:

The manga will debut in V-Jump magazine, but they didn’t say exactly when that will happen. It will focus on the thief Erik (Kamyu for the Japanese version). Its setting will be the events before he meets with the Luminary.

As for Mashima, this ain’t the first time he’s gonna work on a video game-based manga. He previously worked on a short series for Monster Hunter.
