Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is perhaps one of the greatest anime films in history. It also has a very successful manga adaptation from Hayao Miyazaki himself! And now, that very manga is getting a kabuki play adaptation!

Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki made the announcement himself. He revealed that Onoe Kikunosuke V will play the titular protagonist Nausicaa, which debuts in December 2019.

Suzuki also said that it was the Kabuki actor who originally proposed the idea for the Kabuki adaptation. They also revealed that Nakamura Shichinosuke II will play Princess Kushana. Matsuya Onoe, Minosuke Bandou, and Ukon Onoe II will also have roles in the play as well. As for its staff, G2 will be directing the play. Expect them to reveal more information in the days ahead.
