The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California is one of the most haunted houses on Earth. They even rank it as one of the scariest places in the world. Now, the story behind that house has inspired a new Hollywood horror film starring Academy Award winner, Helen Mirren titled Winchester. And for its Japanese release, five horror mangaka are illustrating five different visuals for the film:

Sachiko Uguisu (Warui Yume no Sono Saki… )

Michiru Noroi (Lion no Kubi)

Masaaki Nakayama (PTSD Radio, Fuan no Tane)

Roh Shichimi (Pi-yo and the Magical Fruit)

Yohsuken (Hazureta Minna no Atama no Neji)

The collaboration is for the film’s home video release in Japan. The release happened last 9th January for both DVD and Blu-ray.

As for the film itself, it stars Mirren as Sarah Winchester, who built a rather peculiar home in California. However, it is said that her family, responsible for the Winchester rifle, a weapon which killed millions, are cursed by those killed by it. She apparently used the wealth from her late husband’s weapons company to build a house to communicate with spirits. The Winchester House still stands today, with many visitors reporting strange occurrences happening when they visited.
