From a single idea, it became a reality. And now, Jouji Nakata’s Kouhaku Uta Gassen for seiyuu has revealed its first batch of participants. It seems that the veteran seiyuu has gathered plenty of notable seiyuu from the 90’s, as well as a few of the industry’s current big names.

The announcement revealed that eternal 17-year old Kikoku Inoue will be participating with her daughter, Honoka. Other familiar 90’s names inclide Junko Iwao, Hiroko Kasahara, and Chisa Yokohama. Shokotan herself, Shoko Nakagawa, will also be participating, as well as A Place Further Than the Universe’s Mikako Komatsu. Together, they will be making up the Red Team.

As for the White Team, they include Naoya Uchida, Akio Ohtsuka, Tomokazu Seki, and Shunsuke Takeuchi. They also announced Toshiyuki Toyonaga and Kenyuu Horiuchi as part of the team as well.

The idea all started with a casual tweet from Nakata, floating an all-seiyuu version of the New Year tradition. And wouldn’t you know it, they even made it official! As for its founder, he still couldn’t believe it went through. He says he’s still surprised on how much support he received from fans with the idea.

It will happen on 14 April 2019, and they already have a host! And yes, he’s a seiyuu too, and he’s Junichi Suwabe. He will be acting as moderator as well, alongside fellow-seiyuu Kana Ueda. They’re also crediting Nakata as the official founder of the contest itself. As for the participants, they will announce more of them soon enough.
