Mangaka Takashi Yanase brought the world Anpanman, the lovable and (literally) sweet superhero. Sadly, he passed away back in 2013, and he would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. However, Froebel-kan Co., Ltd. announced that they will be making a biographical anime based on his life. Its title is Yuuki no Hana ga Hiraku Toki – Yanase Takashi to Anpanman no Monogatari, and it adapts Kumiko Kakehashi’s novel of the same name. They even released a trailer for the anime:

The anime itself will be a 55-minute TV special which premieres 23 February 2019. TMS Entertainment is producing the animation, while Tetsuro Kodama is directing it. ReLIFE and Robot Girls Z’s Kazuho Hyodo is writing the anime’s script. They also revealed the anime’s cast members, and they include:

  • Yasuaki Takumi as Takashi
  • Wataru Hatano as Chihiro
  • Tesshou Genda as Ojii-san
  • Naomi Shindoh as Obaa-san
  • Megumi Toyoguchi as Nobu
  • Hiroshi Tsuchida as Superior Officer
  • Shinnosuke Ogami as Shopkeeper
  • Buntoku Nakamura as Son
  • Ryuuto Iwata as young Takashi
  • Kousei Kimura as young Chihiro
  • Hiromu Katou as Child
