And Mamoru Hosoda himself was at the awarding ceremony to accept the award. In his acceptance speech, the director revealed that his own children inspired the film. Mirai defeated MFKZ (Mutafukaz), Ce Magnifique Gâteau !, Ruben Brandt, Collector, and Tito and the Birds to win the award.

The film also got a nomination for “Outstanding Achievement for Writing in an Animated Feature Production” category. However, it lost to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which also won Best Animated Feature Film.
