GunPla is one of the biggest names in plastic models today. And now, Bandai Spirits has announced that after 39 years, they have shipped over 500 million units worldwide.
They first released the 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam kit in 1980, around 6 months after Yoshiyuki Tomino debuted Mobile Suit Gundam. It would prove to be the first step into a multi-million dollar hobby franchise, which includes various grades, scales, and Gundam series.
Unfortunately, the Jed’s Island Gundam from the Philippines, the gigantic Chinese bootleg Gundam, and the stone Gundam in Indonesia don’t count…
And as the Gundam franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary, Bandai Spirits has announced that they already have various projects planned. Unfortunately, they did not reveal what they are yet.
