The official website for Makoto Shinkai’s next upcoming film, Weathering With You, has revealed plenty of new updates. This includes a new trailer which also teases the theme song, Grand Escape (Movie edit) by RADWIMPS feat. Toko Miura.

Touko Miura won a singing competition in order to get the honor of performing the vocals for this new RADWIMPS song. as for the song itself, it features the band doing the sakanaction style, which is a sort of fusion of alternative rock, electronic, pop, and new wave styles. The band isn’t particularly known for using that style, but they’re pulling it off nicely, don’t you think?

Meanwhile, the staff also revealed a brand new key visual, as well as several new cast members:

  • Shun Oguri as Keisuke Suga
  • Tsubasa Honda as Natsumi
  • Chieko Baisho as Tomi
  • Sakura Kiryuu as Nagisa Amano
  • Sei Hiraizumi as Yasui
  • Yuuki Kaji as Takai

They will be joining Kotaro Daigo and Nana Mori in the cast. They voice Hokoda Morishima and Hina Amano in the film respectively.

Here’s how GKIDS, which will be distributing the film out west, describes its story in English:

The summer of his high school freshman year, Hokoda runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hokoda meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strongwilled girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…

The film is confirmed to have an international release, not just in North America, but also here in Southeast Asia. It will premiere in Japan on July 2019, and will reveal more details on its international releases soon enough.
