Netflix made their presence felt during the 2019 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France. And during the event, the revealed that Birthday Wonderland’s Ilya Kuvshinov will be the character designer for the upcoming 3DCG anime, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. The staff also revealed a brand new visual featuring Kuvshinov’s design of Motoko Kusanagi.

Kuvshinov is an internationally-renowned Russian artist, and anime fans may know her as the one who designed the characters in Keiichi Hara’s April 2019 film Birthday Wonderland. She was always a big fan of Japanese animation, especially Ghost in the Shell which she first watched while he was only 6-years old.

Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s Kenji Kamiyama will be co-directing the series over at Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts. It won’t have a movie format, but will instead be an anime series.

The staff also described the new anime as an “original anime series” and ” a next generation anime film”. However, they haven’t announced much information about the series yet.
