Makoto Shinkai‘s newest project since the success of Your Name. is his latest film, Weathering with You. And now, viewers in Japan can watch the anime film’s opening scene before everyone else. This is because TV Asahi will be broadcasting the scene on TV.

The opening scene’s broadcast will happen during a rerun of Shinkai’s Your Name. film on 30th June. A special livestream featuring the cast of both Your Name. and Weathering with You will also happen on Twitter and Abema TV at around 8:45pm JST on that same day.

The film will open in Japanese theatres next month, on 19th July. The cast includes:

  • Kotaro Daigo as Hokoda Morishima
  • Nana Mori as Hina Amano
  • Shun Oguri as Keisuke Suga
  • Tsubasa Honda as Natsumi
  • Chieko Baisho as Tomi
  • Sakura Kiryuu as Nagisa Amano
  • Sei Hiraizumi as Yasui
  • Yuuki Kaji as Takai

Here’s how GKIDS, which will be distributing the film out west, describes its story in English:

The summer of his high school freshman year, Hokoda runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. The weather is unusually gloomy and rainy every day, as if to suggest his future. He lives his days in isolation, but finally finds work as a writer for a mysterious occult magazine. Then one day, Hokoda meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strongwilled girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…

The film is confirmed to have an international release, not just in North America, but also here in Southeast Asia.
