Anime Expo 2019 is now happening at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California, and right outside the venue, they had a pretty big sign. It announced that Katsuhiro Otomo has “embarked in an exciting movie project“, and it’s name is Orbital Era!
Orbital Era will be his third feature film following Akira and Steamboy. He will be in charge of writing, designing, and directing the film. The story takes place on a space colony under construction and follows the lives of some young boys surviving in this peculiar environment and society as they are tossed around by fate. “The reality found in mankind’s future will be depicted through their perspective,” said Otomo.
Otomo is best known to be the mangaka behind Akira. He also ventured into directing anime as well, even directing the now-legendary anime film adaptation of his own manga, Akira. Sunrise will be in charge of animating this film.
