During the TRIGGER panel at Anime Expo 2019 in Los Angeles, California, they revealed that Little Witch Academia’s Yoh Yoshinari will be working on a brand new original anime. Its title is BNA – Brand New Animal, and Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill writer Kazuki Nakashima will be joining him as scriptwriter, alongside Canadian artist Genice who will be helping out in the backgrpund design. Yoshinari and Chen even worked together on the anime’s key visual:

The panel announced that they will be releasing the anime sometime in 2020. And during the discussion, Yoshinari revealed that the female character’s name in the visual above is Michiru.

Yoshinari gained fame when he made his directorial debut with the original Little Witch Academia short film. He then went on to direct the sequel, The Enchanted Parade, as well as the TV anime. The director worked on many Gainax anime, and was even serving as chief animator for this little title known as Neon genesis Evangelion. Expect TRIGGER to reveal more details about the director’s new anime soon.
