The Organizing Committee for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics and Paralympics has revealed that they are partnering up with several notable artists to create official artworks for the games. Among them are two of the most popular mangaka in Japan, in Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Pluto) and Hirohiko Araki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure).

The organization will be featuring the artworks in licensed posters and merchandise during the games with each artist assigned either the Summer Olympics and the Paralympics, below are the assignments:

Olympic poster artists:

  • Naoki Urasawa (mangaka) 
  • Shinro Otake (painter) 
  • Daijiro Ohara (graphic designer) 
  • Shoko Kanazawa (calligrapher) 
  • Tomoko Koumoike (artist)
  • Taku Sato (graphic designer) 
  • Asao Tokoro (designer) 
  • Takashi Honma (photographer) 
  • Theseus Chan (art director) 
  • Viviane Sassen (photographer)
  • Philippe Weisbecker (artist)

Paralympic poster artists:

  • Hirohiko Araki (mangaka) 
  • Kouji Kakinuma (calligrapher) 
  • GOO CHOKI PAR (graphic designer)
  • Tomoyuki Araki (artist) 
  • Asao Tokoro (designer) 
  • Mika Ninagawa (photographer, film director) 
  • Chihiro Mori (artist) 
  • Akira Yamaguchi (painter) 

According to Asahi, the posters will be displayed in Tokyo by the beginning of 2020. The games themselves will kick off on 24 July 2020 and will end on 9th August.
