Disney fans in Japan, as well as video game and anime fans around the world are mourning the loss of a veteran seiyuu. The alumni association for the Toho Gakuen vocational school, Tohokai, has announced that one of their more famous alumni has now passed away. The announcement reported that veteran seiyuu, Yuu Shimaka, best known as the Japanese voice of Goofy in various Disney releases died last 28th July at the age of 70.

Funeral services for the veteran seiyuu were held between 31st July and 1st August. He passed away not just as a seiyuu, but also a lecturer, as he was also teaching at the Tokyo Announce Gakuen. He also ran a private voice acting school called “Goof Troop,” in reference for his most famous role.

Shimaka voiced Goofy in various shows and films, as well as the Kingdom Hearts video games. He also voiced Ryouga Senba in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Misha in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, and Valke Shultz in Space Battleship Yamato 2199.

He will be missed, may he rest in peace.
