During a special stage presentation at the Tokyo Game Show 2019, Square Enix showed off several gameplay mechanics for Final Fantasy VII Remake. It reveals that a classic feature from the original 90’s PlayStation game is making a comeback:

As the video revealed (around the 19:43 mark), players can switch from the game’s default battle mode and into the “Classic Mode”, which allows players to fight battles in the original’s turn-base style. However, players can still fill their ATB (active-time battle) gauge, much like the default battle mode.

The video also features several other gameplay mechanics, as well as a mini game. It also teased several battles featuring Tifa, Cloud, and Aerith, as well as one with a party consisting of Cloud and Barret.

Prior to the Tokyo Game Show 2019 event, Square Enix released a brand new story trailer for the game.

The game itself will be released in several parts, with the first one only covering the Midgar story line. It will be released for the PlayStation 4 this 3rd March 2020.
