GeGeGe no Kitarou is really big in Japan. The classic anime, which adapts the late great Shigeru Mizuki‘s manga, started out as a black and white series, and this latest one is a remake of sorts. And now, it’s about to enter the final arc, also known as the Nurarihyon Arc.

The arc will kick off with the anime’s 76th episode, which premieres on 6th October. The staff also revealed that Akio Ohtsuka is joining the cast as Nurarihyon, together with Chou, who will be voicing Shunubon.

Miyuki Sawashiro is the new Kitarou, taking over the legendary Masako Nozawa for the role. However, the legendary seiyuu is also part of the new anime’s cast, but not as Kitarou. This is because she’s voicing Medama Oyaji. What’s Gegege no Kitarou without Masako Nozawa, right?

The anime celebrates the franchise’s 50th anniversary, with the first TV anime premiering on 3 January 1963! It then had a second run between 1971 and 1972, and then 3rd, 4th, and 5th anime runs in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. The series is one of the most beloved franchises in Japan, having inspired countless mangaka and animators.
