As we previously reported, Shin Godzilla directors Shinji Higuchi (live-action Attack on Titan director) and Hideaki Anno (Evangelion creator) are reuniting for Shin Ultraman, which will be a brand new film project. Now, they have announced the main cast!

Takumi Saitou will be the lead, and will be voicing the yet-to-be-named main character who can transform into Ultraman. Meanwhile, Masami Nagasawa will be his partner. The other cast members include:

  • Kouji Yamamoto
  • Tetsushi Tanaka
  • Daiki Arioka
  • Akari Hayami
  • Ryou Iwamatsu
  • Toshihiro Wada
  • Toru Matsuoka
  • Kyusaku Shimada
  • Keishi Nagatsuka
  • Hajime Yamazaki

The studio behind the upcoming Shin Evangelion movie, Studio Khara, will be producing this new Ultraman title. From the looks of things, Hideaki Anno really likes the word “Shin“, as he not only worked on the “Shin Evangelion” and “Shin Godzilla” films, but this new Ultraman project’s title is also… you guessed it, Shin Ultraman!

Studio Khara released a statement in English for the new film project, and it states:

A new film production of “SHIN ULTRAMAN” was publicly announced today. The new movie will come to theaters in 2021.

Hideaki Anno will join a film team, Higuchi-Gumi led by Director Shinji Higuchi, taking charge of Produce and Screenplay. First draft script has been finished in February 5th, 2019. Anno will fully join the project after finishing his “EVANGELION:3.0+1.0” film.

Basically, Higuchi’s team known as Higuchi-Gumi is directing the new movie, while Anno is doing the planning and scripts. They have also already completed the script last February, with Anno joining the project officially after working on Shin Evangelion.
