Sora Tokui isn’t just a singer, and she isn’t just the seiyuu voicing Nico Yazawa on Love Live!, but did you know that she’s also a mangaka? Her manga even had an anime adaptation.

Now, the multi-talented seiyuu is venturing into filmmaking, as she makes her directorial debut with the new animated short film, Tokidoki, Nemurenai Yoru ni (Sometimes, On Those Sleepless Nights) .

The film is based on a short story which became the Sora Tokui Prize winner. She herself personally selected the winning story from a pool of submissions. The Entrants submitted their stories to monogatary.com in hopes of getting their story adapted by the Love Live! seiyuu.

Aside from becoming Sora Tokui’s directorial debut film, the short story will also be getting a manga adaptation, an audio book, and all sorts of other media adaptations.

The film’s theme is “A female teen who cannot sleep in the night before the decisive battle”. However, Sora Tokui has said that the short story surprised her, as the writer wrote it from the point of view of her father. She has said that she loves the story’s depiction of the father-daughter relationship.

The short film will premiere sometime in 2020. The staff will reveal more details soon.
