Violet Evergarden: Spin-Off – Eternity and Auto Memory Doll – serves as an act of defiance by Kyoto Animation against the arsonist who tried to destroy it. It’s currently screening in Japan, and now, they’re actually extending its theatrical run!

The film will continue its run past its scheduled final screening on 18th October. In addition, they will also be screening the film across seven new locations across Japan. It was originally set for a 2-week screening, which should have ended on 20th October, but KyoAni extended it following the arson attack last July. They stated that this latest extension was due to popular demand and high satisfaction rankings.

The Side Story film has become a symbol of defiance for KyoAni towards the arsonist, who has now killed 36 people. KyoAni went forward with the film’s world premiere in Germany, just weeks after the arson attack, and then went further by showing the film in Japan. They also included the names of those who passed away from the arson fire, as well as those hospitalised, it its end credits.
