NHK news has reported that preparations for demolishing the Kyoto Animations Studio 1 building are now underway. The preparations work will last until the end of this year. Work for that include scaffolding the building and then emptying it of other materials.

They will then begin actual demolitions work in January. Demolitions might last a few months as well, with work projected to end in late April 2020.

Kyoto Animation president Hideaki Hatta previously stated that they’re really planning to demolish the building after that arson fire which killed 36 people and injured many others. He also previously said that they plan to turn the area into a public park. However, Kyoto Animation has now told NHK News that they’re still unsure what to do with the area after the demolitions work has ended.
