Critics have been praising Makoto Shinkai’s latest film, Weathering With You. And now, the anime film has garnered a new accolade, winning the Asia Pacific Screen Award’s Best Animated Feature Film award.

They recently held the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Brisbane Australia, and it celebrates the film industry of the Asia-Pacific region. The film beat out some very tough competion to win the Best Animated Feature Film award. Among the other nominees include Hiroyasu Ishida’s Penguin Highway, Kirby Atkins’ Mosley, Oh Sung-yoon’s Underdog, and Behzad Nalbandi’s The Unseen films.

Shinkai previously won the award in its innaugural year in 2007 with 5 Centimeters Per Second. His two other films, Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below and your name., also received nominations in 2011 and 2017 respectively. However, they did not win. Other Japanese anime films which won the award include Miss Hokusai in 2015, A Letter to Momo in 2012 and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya in 2014.
