During the first day of the Jump Festa ’20 event, the staff of Gintama came clean. Yes, folks, they are not trolling us like usual and are actually doing the third movie.

In fact, they revealed it will premiere in 2021 and even released this new key visual:

They first teased that a new Gintama project is in the works during the “Gintama Shirogane Matsuri 2019 (Kari)” event last March. The manga’s 77th and final volume’s wrap-around jacket then announced that a new anime movie will be happening soon. And now, the staff finally confirmed that the movie is happening.

Of course, given the franchise’s track record of trolling everyone, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief knowing the movie project is real. This would also make this the third anime film in the franchise as well.

Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya, the last movie, was supposed to be the final anime movie in the franchise. But this being Gintama, it turns out that the movie itself was just trolling fans… as usual.

And speaking of trolling, the manga itself has finally ended last 20th June after much trolling on when it will actually end. And yes, they also trolled fans in the first anime film as well, playing off the movie announcement as a running gag… before trolling fans to reveal they actually made a movie.
