Para-Athletes have always stood in the shadow of their more normal counterparts. However, they would often train as hard, and compete as hard as them in their respective games. And with the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics looming in the horizon, NHK has announced a new TV anime that will focus on Para-Athletes. It’s called Breakers, and it will premiere on 7th January 2020.

The anime itself will follow four Para-Athletes, all of whom meet an outcast sports scientist named Ren Narita. They compete in different sports, including wheelchair basketball, track and high jump, goalball, and paralympic swimming.

The anime will star:

  • Shinichiro Miki as Ren Narita
  • Yui Okada as Kai
  • Arthur Lounsbery as Shun
  • Ryoka Yuzuki as Youko
  • Jun Fukuyama as Hayato
  • Marie Mizuno as Yuki
  • Soushirou Hori as the coach
  • Kazuki Miyagi as Itou
  • Yuu Okano as Nobu Narita
  • Kenta Miyake as Ken Narita/Narrator

. BugLug is composing is performing the anime’s theme song, “SUPER HERO”. Meanwhile, Hanebado! episode director Masataka Nishikawa is directing the anime, with Albacrow animating it.

The 2020 Summer Paralympics will be kicking off on 25th August, and will end on 6th September. It will showcase the world’s best Para-Athletes, who will show the world that they are just as capable as their more able-bodied counterparts.
