A year after transfering from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump SQ., Daisuke Ashihara’s World Trigger is getting a second TV anime adaptation. During the Jump Festa ’20 event at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Toei Animation announced that this new anime will indeed be World Trigger’s second season. In fact, they even released a new PV and key visual:

TV Asahi will be airing the anime, with much of the original cast reprising their roles. The event confirmed some of them, and they include:

  • Tomo Muranaka as Yuuma Kuga
  • Yuuki Kaji as Osamu Mikumo
  • Nao Tamura as Chika Amatori
  • Yuuichi Nakamura as Yuuichi Jin
  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hyuse

The manga was on a roll before mangaka Ashihara needed an emergency cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal surgery). It then transferred from Weekly Shonen Jump and into Jump SQ. And a year after the transfer, the anime’s story finally gets a continuation. Toei Animation will be producing the series, though they haven’t revealed its staff yet.

Here’s the manga’s synopsis via Crunchyroll:

One day, a gate to another world opened in Mikado City. Invaders from another dimension, referred to thereafter as Neighbors, overran the area around the gate, leaving the city gripped by fear. However, a mysterious group suddenly appeared and repelled the Neighbors. This Border Defense Agency independently researches Neighbor technology and fights to protect this world. In a short time, they managed to build an enormous base and prepare a defensive system against the Neighbors. it’s been four years since then.
