Prepare for more girls going crazy, as 07th Expansion and Kadokawa announced that Higurashi: When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) is getting a new anime project. Kadokawa even released a new video teasing the project, along with a bloody new visual:

The announcement video above credits Ryukishi07 and 07th Expansion for the original work, and reveals that Passione (Citrus) is animating the project. And if the designs look familiar, that’s because Monogatari’s Akio Watanabe is doing the character designs. They also announced that Infinite is producing the series as well.

The new anime project has also opened a new official website and Twitter account as well.

Set in a rural town, the franchise follows the mystery of the grisly murders which usually coincide with its annual festival. The first anime adaptation itself has become quite infamous around the world, mostly because of all the violence and gore.
