Ghost in the Shell is getting a new anime from Netflix and Production I.G., and its title is Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. And now, Netflix Asia has revealed new details about the series with the release of a new trailer. It features the new design for Ghost in the Shell, as well as the first glimpses of new footage:

Yeah, the new trailer had mixed reactions from fans, as many did not take too kindly to the “moe Motoko Kusanagi”. Many were also not big fans of the 3DCG animation as well. The video itself received more Dislikes than actual likes on YouTube. However, there were also lots of people who loved the trailer. Here’s the Japanese version which had plenty of announcements:

This new trailer announced that much of the cast from previous Stand Alone Complex anime are returning. They are:

  • Akio Ohtsuka as Batou
  • Atsuko Tanaka as Motoko Kusanagi
  • Kouichi Yamadera as Togusa
  • Osamu Saka as Daisuke Aramaki
  • Sakiko Tamagawa as Tachikoma
  • Takashi Onozuka as Pazu
  • Taro Yamaguchi as Borma
  • Toru Ohkawa as Saito
  • Yutaka Nakano as Ishikawa

King Gnu member Daiki Tsuneta’s new creative team, millennium parade, will perform the new OP song. “Fly with Me”. The song itself will feature vocals from ermhoi, HIMI, Cota Mori, and Kento Nagatsuka (WONK).

The staff also unveiled a new key visual featuring a non-3D version of Ilya Kuvshinov’s character design.

Kodansha and Production I.G, together with Netflix, are working together to produce the anime. Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki are co-directing the anime, which will be split into two parts. Kamiyama will direct the first part, while Aramaki will direct the second half.

The anime will be a Netflix exclusive, and will premiere in April 2020. Here’s how they describe its story:

In the year 2045, the world has entered a systematic “Sustainable War.” Hired as a mercenary unit, the former members of Japan’s elite Section 9 are faced with the sudden appearance of “Post-Human,” a being with tremendous intelligence and physical capabilities.
