The animated adaptation of “Mo Dao Zu Shi”, based on the Chinese BL web novel of the same title, will have a Japanese release — both subtitled and dubbed, from Sony Music Solutions and Aniplex. The “Mo Dao Zu Shi” animated adaptation was produced by Tencent Video, and was a massive hit in its native China.

Tencent also produced the live-action drama adaptation of “Mo Dao Zu Shi” titled “The Untamed”, which also became a massive hit, and propelled its two lead stars Xiao Zhan and Wang YiBo into international fame. “The Untamed” is currently available on WeTV and Netflix.

“Mo Dao Zu Shi” tells the story of Wei WuXian, a young martial artist who strove to use a taboo method of cultivation. Shunned by the entire cultivation realm, he died at the hands of his adoptive brother Jiang Cheng just as he helped them defeat a powerful evil sect. After thirteen years, his soul was summoned back into the body of a boy named Mo XuanYu, to fulfil his revenge plot against his abusive family.

Coming face to face with people from his previous life, Wei WuXian slowly comes to realize his feelings for his former schoolmate and now travel companion Lan WangJi. Together, they strive to unravel the mystery behind a gruesome murder, as well as expose the nefarious plot that caused Wei WuXian’s death thirteen years prior.
