Ex-AKB48 Mayu Watanabe has announced her retirement from the entertainment industry due concerns about her health. Her agency announced this on Monday 1st June 2020, one day after her contract was terminated upon her request on Sunday 31st May 2020.
Affectionately known as “Mayuyu” among AKB-48 fans, she received her first centre position on the group’s 30th single “So Long!”. After leaving the group in 2017, she became an actress and played roles on TV, in movies, and in musicals.
