Via Comic Natalie: Studio Ghibli will be releasing its first 3DCG feature-length animation “Aya and the Witch” on NHK this coming winter. “Aya and the Witch” will be planned by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by his son Goro Miyazaki.

Goro Miyazaki directed other Studio Ghibli films such as their adaptations of Ursula K. LeGuin’s “Tales from Earthsea”, as well as Tetsurou Sayama and Chizuru Takahashi’s “From Up On Poppy Hill”. He also directed the CG anime series “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter,” produced by Polygon Pictures in partnership with Studio Ghibli.

“Aya and the Witch” is based on British author Diana Wynne Jones’ novel “Earwig and the Witch”; Jones was also the original author of another adaptation by Studio Ghibli, “Howl’s Moving Castle” — which was directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
