Jirou Tsunoda’s classic horror manga “Kyoufu Shinbun” will be getting an updated drama adaptation this 2020, to be directed by “The Ring” auteur Hideo Nakata. The show will premiere on 29th August on Tokai TV and associated channels. “Kyoufu Shinbun” will star Sei Shiraishi and Hitomi Kuroki.

“Kyoufu Shinbun” (literally “Horror Newspaper”) is an ominous newspaper which shortens the lifespan of the reader by 100 days. The manga was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion and has been adapted into multiple OVAs, games, and films — including the 2004 movie “Yogen” (“Premonition”).

The 2020 update centres on the story of Shizuru Onoda, who goes to a university in Kyoto. Whilst living alone, the eponymous “Kyoufu Shinbun” shows up on her doorstep, setting off a chain of mysterious and terrifying events.
