Via Comic Natalie and Oricon: Haruichi Furudate’s popular boys manga “Haikyuu!!” has released its final chapter today — 8½ years after it started serialization in 2012, with a full-colour 28-page centrefold in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump 33 + 34 double issue.

“Haikyuu!!” centres on the story of high school student Shoyo Hinata — a volleyball novice, who has partnered up and trained with genius setter Tobio Kageyama. With 43 volumes published, “Haikyuu!!” has exceeded a total circulation of 38 million copies.

A TV anime adaptation was broadcast in 2014, with a second and third season following in 2015 and 2016 respectively; the fourth and final season started airing in 2020 to coincide with the end of the manga series. “Haikyuu!!” also has a popular stage adaptation titled “Hyper Projection Play “Haikyuu!!”

Author Haruichi Furudate was born 1983 in Iwate Prefecture. In 2009, he made his debut in Akamaru Jump 2009 Winter with the one-shot story “Asobiba。”. He released his first serialised work “Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya Senpai no Kaidan” in 2010.

“Haikyu!!” is just the latest in a number of titles ending this year on Weekly Shounen Jump — which includes major hits such as “Kimetsu no Yaiba” and “The Promised Neverland”.
