The Swedish-designed, Malaysian-made handheld console “Playdate” is ready to accept pre-orders in early 2021. Playdate has also confirmed that Season 1 of its game offerings are more or less locked in. Initially slated for release this year, it was understandably delayed due to manufacturing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The device boasts of an old-school monochrome screen and a control pad layout similar to the Nintendo Gameboy. But what sets Playdate apart is the hand-crank on the right-hand side, which is a game mechanic for some of the Playdate’s exclusive games.

Playdate is priced at USD $150 each.
