The Japanese dubbed version of the web anime “Mado Soushi” (titled “Mo Dao Zu Shi” in its original Chinese) will begin its broadcast run on WOWOW, TOKYO MX, and BS11 from 10th January 10, 2021. The opening theme will be by the rock band CIVILIAN while the ending theme will be by the songstress Aimer.

In addition to the main cast members Ryohei Kimura and Shinnosuke Tachibana, an additional 21 new cast members were announced including Hikaru Midorikawa, Saori Hayami, Toshiyuki Morikawa, Yuki Kaji, Shinba Tsuchiya, Souma Saitou, Hanae Natsuki, Kenji Akabane, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Ayako Kawasumi, Hiroyuki Yoshino, Kana Asumi, Lynn, Kenji Hamada, Takako Honda, Mitsuhiro Sakamaki, Show Hayami, Kenta Miyake, Keikou Sakai, Hiroshi Shirokuma, and Masafumi Kobatake.

Based on the Chinese BL web novel of the same title, the show was produced by Tencent Video, and will be released in Japan by Sony Music Solutions and Aniplex. Tencent also produced the live-action drama adaptation of “Mo Dao Zu Shi” titled “The Untamed”; the 50-episode drama is currently available on WeTV and Netflix.

“Mo Dao Zu Shi” tells the story of Wei WuXian, a young martial artist who strove to use a taboo method of cultivation. Shunned by the entire cultivation realm, he died at the hands of his adoptive brother Jiang Cheng just as he helped them defeat a powerful evil sect.

After thirteen years, his soul was summoned back into the living world, and he begins to travel with his former childhood rival Lan WangJi. Together, they strive to unravel the mystery behind a gruesome murder, as well as expose the nefarious plot that caused Wei WuXian’s death thirteen years prior.
