Via Comic Natalie: seminal manga artist Rumiko Takahashi has been awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon for her contributions in the field of arts and culture. The Medal will be officially conferred on 3rd November 2020.

Takahashi was born in 1957 in Niigata prefecture. She won the Honourable Mention in the 2nd Shogakukan Newcomer Comic Award for Shonen Manga in 1978 while attending university, and her debut work was subsequently published in Weekly Shonen Sunday. She is the author of many famous works such as “Urusei Yatsura”, “Maison Ikkoku”, “Ranma 1/2”, and “Inuyasha”.

He latest series currently running is titled “Mao”.
