Via Comic Natalie: “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie – Mugen Train” has officially surpassed the box office take of Studio Ghibli’s bestselling film “Spirited Away” as of 27th December 2020. “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie – Mugen Train” receipts currently stand at JPY 32,478,895,850, while “Spirited Away” is at approximately JPY 31.68B.

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie – Mugen Train” was also the fastest film in Japanese movie history to earn JPY 10 billion, taking only ten days to reach the sum. In comparison, “Spirited Away” ran for 25 days before totalling the same amount.

“Spirited Away” was originally released in 2001; the film is currently running in cinemas in Japan as part of a Studio Ghibli revival run.
