Via Oricon: the first-day box-office receipts of ““Evangelion: 3.0+1.0” has exceeded JPY 800M, a 123.8% increase compared to the previous film “Evangelion: Q”. It has also attracted over 538,623 moviegoers, making it one of Japan’s biggest grossing movies in recent history. Whether it will surpass current ticket sales record holder “Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Movie Mugen Train” remains to be seen.

“Evangelion: 3.0+1.0” is the fourth and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, based on the 1995 anime series “Neon Genesis Evangelion”; the film was originally slated for release in 2015. It was announced that the film will finally hit cinemas 27th June 2020, then postponed to 23rd January 2021, and again to 8th March 2021 due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in Japan.
