Fans who heard the music earlier with advanced streaming from Tuesday the 9th of March were already reacting with excitement! The music video of “One Last Kiss” was directed by Hideaki Anno — the author, screenwriter, and director of the film “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice upon a Time.”.

This video was released on Tuesday the 9th of March at midnight, the same time as the song was released. After accepting Hikaru Utada’s offer to make a music video, Mr. Anno proposed her to send the material shot by Hikaru herself without any on-site direction, and then he cut it up and joined it together to make the video. After receiving a bare minimum of instructions from Anno via e-mail, such as looking at the camera and lip-syncing, Hikaru Utada took meticulous measures to prevent COVID-19 infection, and shot the film in the suburbs of London with only a few staff members.

The film was then edited in Japan by Anno and his team, who received the video material shot with a variety of non-professional equipment including smart phones. The result is a work that evokes bittersweet emotions, as if tracing an important memory from the private past. Fans are encouraged watch and enjoy the music video along with the film!
