Via Comic Natalie: Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s “Blue Period” will be made into a TV anime, scheduled for broadcast this 2021. A critically-acclaimed work, last year the manga won the 13th Manga Taishō and the 44th Kodansha Manga Award for Best General Manga. It was also nominated for the 24th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

Koji Masunari — who is best known for the anime “Magi”, is the overall director, while Katsuya Asano — who is best known for the anime “Yu-Gi-Oh! Vrains”, is the director. Reiko Yoshida is in charge of the series composition and screenplay, with Tomoyuki Shitaya in charge of the character design, while production work will be by Seven Arcs.

“Blue Period” follows the story of Yatora Yaguchi, a popular student who excels in school, but often deals with ennui. One day he became fascinated by a piece done at his high school’s art club, inspiring him to try painting. He then joins the club and becomes more enamoured with painting, and changes gears to apply for a slot at the prestigious Tokyo University of the Arts.
