Via Yomiuri Shinbun: the Musashino Police Department of Tokyo Metropolitan Police has announced that they had arrested a 25-year-old woman of unknown occupation in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture for threatening to set WIT Studio on fire. The announcement was made last 28th May, after the arrest was made on the 26th of May 2021.

According to the announcement, on 7th May the woman sent an e-mail to the renowned animation studio — headquartered in Musashino City, West Tokyo, stating “I will set fire to the head office in a week”. The woman has since been charged with “obstruction of business”, and police strongly believe that the suspect had a history of mental illness.

This incident is just the latest in a series of copycat crimes where major studios are threatened with arson, in the aftermath of the Kyoto Animation case. “Evangelion” producer Studio khara and game developer Square Enix received similar threats.

WIT Studio is known worldwide for producing the first three seasons of the TV anime adaptation of “Attack On Titan”, as well as other titles such as “Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress” and “Great Pretender”.
