Panic, the software developer and indie game publisher who unleashed honking fun “Untitled Goose Game” on the masses, has updates on the Swedish-designed, Malaysian-made handheld console “Playdate” — which they will be announcing via YouTube on 8th June at 9:00 AM PDT / 9th June at 12:00 AM SGT.

Playdate has also adjusted its launch price from USD$ 149 to USD$ 179, but the good news is the number of launch titles has doubled from 12 to 24 new games, as well as the internal storage capacity from 2GB to 4GB.

The device boasts of an old-school monochrome screen and a control pad layout similar to the Nintendo Gameboy. But what sets Playdate apart is the hand-crank on the right-hand side, which is a game mechanic for some of Playdate’s exclusive games.

Initially slated for release in 2020, it was understandably delayed due to manufacturing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
