KADOKAWA has announced that it has entered into a business alliance agreement with Tencent Holdings Limited, the core company of the Tencent Group in China. The goal of the alliance is to create abundant and unique IPs made up of a diverse range of media — including books, live-action movies, anime, games, and UGC (User Generated Content) platforms, and to distribute them all over the world.
With the Tencent Group, a joint venture to establish a publishing business in China to create and distribute KADOKAWA books, anime, and games is in the works. Meanwhile, in Japan, Tencent through Sixjoy and Tencent Japan will jointly invest in KADOKAWA’s anime works, and strengthen creative efforts — such as joint development in adapting anime works into games.
