An all-new animated adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi off-the-wall romantic comedy “Urusei Yatsura” has been announced for 2022, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Shogakukan’s founding! The show will be broadcast on Fuji TV’s “Noitamina” block with four cours planned in total. Hiroshi Kamiya will play the role of Ataru Moroboshi, and Sumire Uesaka will play the role of Lum.

The new adaptation will be directed by Hideya Takahashi and Yasuhiro Kimura, who worked on “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind”, based on series composition by Yuko Kakihara from “Cells at Work!”, featuring character design by Naoyuki Asano of “Osomatsu-san” and “Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!”, with animation to be produced by david production.

“Urusei Yatsura” is a romantic comedy that begins when a delinquent high school student, Ataru Moroboshi, meets a beautiful demon space girl, Lum. “Urusei Yatsura” was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday (Shogakukan) from 1978 to 1987, with an earlier TV anime adaptation broadcast from 1981 to 1986 was broadcast, where Toshio Furukawa played the role of Ataru Moroboshi and Fumi Hirano played the role of Lum.
