Magic Kaito 1412 is an upcoming anime series airing on 04 Oct 2014 as part of the celebration for the 20th anniversary of Detective Conan’s manga serialization, and the principal seiyuu cast have been announced.
Kappei Yamaguchi (Usopp in One Piece) will be reprising his role as Kaito kid/Kaito Kuraba in the series. Playing alongside Kappei Yamaguchi is newcomer seiyuu/Japanese actress, M.A.O (Mao Ichimichi), who takes over the role of Aoko Nakamori, Kaito’s childhood friend, who was previously played by Ayumi Fujimura in 2010 Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief Special and Minami Takayama (Envy in Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherhood) in Detective Conan series.
Popular seiyuu, Mamoru Miyano, joins the ensemble, playing Saguru Hakuba, a high school detective who pursues Kaito. In the previous anime adaptation, Saguru was portrayed by Akira Ishida ( Kotaro Katsura in Gintama). Eri Kitamura ( Sayaka Miki in Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica ) wraps up the cast as Akako Koizumi, a classmate of Kuraba, that practices black magic. She was voiced by Megumi Hayashibara (Rei Ayanami in Neon Genesis Evangelion) in Detective Conan and Miyuki Sawashiro (Kurapika in Hunter x Hunter 2011) in Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief Special.
In the Magic Kaito series , Kaito Kuraba dons the cape, and becomes Kaito Kid. He is on a quest to find the gemstone, Pandora, a stone that grants immortality, before the evil organization does. Gosho Aoyama wrote and illustrated Magic Kaito in 1987 but has stopped to pave the way for Detective Conan. He has since irregularly updated the series and currently the series has 4 volumes in circulation.
