Studio Pierrot, best known for animating Naruto, Bleach, Creamy Mami, and Baby Steps, has announced that they will be animating the late Fujio Akatsuka‘s classic manga about mischievous sextuplets, Osomatsu-kun, which had its last anime adaptation end about 27 years ago in 1988.
Osomatsu-kun will be returning as an anime after a long 27 years. Although this is third time the evergreen manga will be receiving an anime adaptation, will be first time it is being animated after its creator’s passing in 2008. The first adaptaion was launched back in 1966 and ran till 1967, while the second adaptation ran from 1988 till 1989.
Veteran Takahiro Sakurai (Miyuki Kazuya from Ace of Diamond, Ferid Bathory from Seraph of the End) will be voicing the titular character and eldest of the sextuplets, Osomatsu-kun. The story revolves around the sextuplets who are all in-love with a girl named Totoko, and the comedy that ensues.
This new series will now follow the sextuplets as adults, as they were previously featured as 10-year olds in the manga.
Osomatsu-kun is known for being a gag manga and is considered an anime comedy classic. The new adaptation will be in good hands as Gintama’s Yoichi Fujita will be directing. Fujita will be working with long time collaborator Shuu Matsubara (writer for Gintama) as he is now in-charge of series composition. More announcements about this big anime return will be made in the days to come.
