[ANIME] Doki doki Kokuhaku Moments in Anime

It’s that time of the year again where girls would go chocolate-making or chocolate-shopping and confessing their love to their crushes. Ah.. L’amour.

We bring you some of the moments where we felt our hearts swoon and squeal with glee as we pin our hopes to the young fair maiden saying yes to the confession(kokuhaku) of that handsome young man.

Love Confession #1 : Edward Elric to Winry Rockbell

This series by Hiromu Arakawa (author of Gin no Saji) tells the story of the brothers Alphonse “Al”  (CV:Rie Kugimiya ) and Edward Elric(CV:Romi Park), who are bent on bringing back their dead mother through alchemy. Of course that one failed miserably, with Edward losing his right arm and leg and Al’s body getting stuck in a limbo. Edward, for the better of it, had to sacrifice his right arm so that his brother’s soul can be transported into that of a burly tin man( Talk about costing an arm and a leg!).

As the story progresses, they find ways to bring their lives back to normal with the help of the Philosopher’s Stone and fight all the bad guys along the way.

So at the end of the series, we finally see Edward finally proposing to his childhood friend and his automail technician, Winry Rockbell(CV:Megumi Takamoto) after a fairly long battle with the Homunclus, the Seven Sins (no relation to Nanatsu no Taizai), and in a very geeky fashion.

We see Edward mumbling the words “I’ll give you half of my life if you give me half of yours” which is the said equivalent exchange in the law of alchemy.

Of course, nothing brings that smile in our eyes if we don’t our favourite couple living happily ever after.

News: Fresh from her short hiatus, Hiromu Arakawa is still penning Gin no Saji, which currently now is on its 13th Volume.

Love Confession#2 : Naoki Irie to Kotoko Aihara

Kotoko Aihara(CV: Nana Mizuki), had it rough on the day she lost her home because of a fire accident.It was also the day she got rejected by the popular, intelligent boy in the school, Naoki Irie (CV:Daisuke Hirakawa).

By sheer luck, the following day, her father’s friend invited them over to stay while they are temporarily looking for a shelter, and of course, that house belongs to none other than the Irie family.

So, it didn’t start out that well for them, but Kotoko persevered (with the added help of Naoki’s mom). It was  not an easy road for her as Naoki was the epitome of a male tsundere ( and am not kidding with that) and it wasn’t easy to break his icy heart. It was many moons (14 episodes to be exact) before we finally saw the much needed confession.

Under the pouring rain, Kotoko walked out of her engagement to her other ardent admirer, Keisuke(CV: Shuuhei Sakaguchi). All the while, she can’t forget about her first and only love and she can’t deal with another guy in her life. Why can’t she? Naoki was all that she could think about it and at that moment  Naoki appears…

and in a very Naoki-like fashion, Naoki confesses. “You won’t be able to love anyone but me…”

News: There is an upcoming 2-part live action film (reboot) this 2016.  

Love Confession #3 : Mashiro Moritaka to Miho Azuki

We do know the story of Mashiro(CV:Atsushi Abe) and Takagi(CV: Satoshi Hino) on how they team up to become mangakas. We also know that one of the compelling reasons Mashiro decided to pursue a career as a mangaka was because of his promise to Azuki(CV:Saori Hayami), his crush from middle school.When Mashiro and Azuki were still in middle school, they made a promise to each other that when their dreams come true, Mashiro will ask the hand of Azuki in marriage.

To them( and to the fans following the series), it was a very long,arduous road to success( it took at least 2 character pairing from the series to hook up before they finally said yes. In shoujo manga words, it probably took the same time as when Kazehaya worked up the confession to Sawako in Kimi ni Todoke. Yes, it’s that long!) . Mashiro struggled with Takagi to come up with a manga that can be serialized, while Azuki worked hard on becoming a seiyuu worth starring in Mashiro’s manga.

Of course, we know what will happen in the end, but we (the fans) are still curious how Mashiro will propose to Azuki at the end.

Mashiro: “Azuki-san. When our manga becomes an anime, Azuki-san will play the role of the heroine! Now that our dreams have come true, please marry me!”

I guess, when you truly worked hard for that dream and when you get to share that dream with the person you loved, that’s what love is all about. Well, at the end of the anime, it really didn’t disappoint when they showed a wedding…

but it’s not the wedding that we thought would happened in the end .

News: There’s a going to be a reboot of a live action film adaptation from Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata‘s other works, Death Note. The series had already spawned a live action film in 2006.
